Just when I was beginning to think I was never going to find anything good at a yard sale or flea market again, a beautiful day in coastal North Carolina proves me wrong. It's going to be in the high 80's today here at Holden Beach - not a day you would be thinking about Christmas. It's hard to think of the jolly old man in a red suit in a heat wave in October, but today I lucked up on a community yard sale and everyone had Christmas "junk" they were selling - at least that's what one woman called it - and you know the old saying, one woman's junk is..... Well it did turn out to be a treasure to me.
I couldn't believe it when I saw this Dept 56 village store with a $4 price tag on it. I didn't even try to dicker - which is so unlike me! I looked it up on Ebay and one just sold for $116. Love bargains like that.
At the next stop I found this Mr. Christmas Carousel. It was marked $10 and I asked her if she would take $8. This is the one who said "I need to get all this Christmas junk out of here". Well, she did have some junk, but not this. I always buy Mr. Christmas things - they're made well and they hold their value. One like this just sold for $99 on Ebay.
I will probably keep the village piece for my own collection, but I'll definitely be selling Mr. Christmas. He will help feed the coffers for my flea market addition for awhile. I found a few other bargain finds, but these two were my favorites.
This is the time of the year I love to yard sale. The air is crisp and clear and people are starting to pull things out of their attics - it's been too hot in the Carolina attics during the summer months. I've been so slack in my blogging, but the book I'm writing has made some serious headway. I thought I was finished with it, but I keep going back and deleting and adding. The changes are all for the better though - I'm hoping to have it published by Christmas!!! It's Christian Women's fiction - and when you're writing for fellow Christians or even non-believers, you need to get it right! I need all the prayers you can send my way!
Happy junkin' everyone!

Hi Glenda. How lovely to see you here today, and I'm glad that you bought a couple of bargains. Gosh, Christmas! But it will soon be here, that's for sure. I can't believe that your book is going to be published by Christmas. Gosh! Well done you! I'll obviously buy a copy! Praying that all goes well for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane. I'm thinking of self-publishing - I don't have the heart for rejection letters at my ages, lol. Of course, I haven't even tried to find an agent yet, so who knows. With self-publishing, it's so much faster - I have a friend who has several books out and all were self published. It has it's pros and cons - I'm just ready to see it in print!
DeleteI adore that higbys dept store cause I love that movie...what a deal, I would keep it too...I too love Christmas and always looking for cool finds like yours...not sure I have ever found anything this good...Phyllis
ReplyDeleteYes Phyllis - I think that's why it sells for so much. Everyone loved A Christmas Story - and Ralphie's obsession with getting a Red Ryder for Christmas. This village store has a boy looking through the window at the Red Ryder - so cute.
DeleteWhat cute finds! And how exciting about your book! :)
